MA crashed the legal hopes of women victims of sexual violence at the University of Riau

Gedung Mahkamah Agung RI

The Supreme Court (MA) of the Republic of Indonesia has just rejected the appeal of a student victim of sexual violence from the University of Riau.

This rejection nurtured the hopes of victims, and all women in Indonesia, especially victims of violence, towards legal alignments against them.

One of the considerations in this legal process from the beginning, which many have criticized, is because the judges of the court attach too much importance to the presence of witnesses in these events.
Generally acts of sexual violence occur in private spaces or confined spaces, so it is very difficult for eyewitnesses to witness.

This case became evidence, that until recently the existing legal system had not sided with the victims of sexual violence.

The victim's legal advisor, who is also Director of LBH Pekanbaru, Andi Wijaya, will discuss the issue in this interview.
