Ex-CFMEU organiser's bail relaxed

A former CFMEU organiser charged with blackmail has had his bail extended, allowing him to attend his mother's funeral in New Zealand.

A former Canberra CFMEU organiser charged with blackmail has had his bail again extended so he can travel to New Zealand for his mother's funeral.

Magistrate Maria Doogan accepted Halafihi 'Fihi' Kivalu's request to travel across the Tasman on Wednesday, noting he had been allowed to leave twice before and has come back to court.

His matter - relating to allegedly pocketing thousands of dollars from a formwork company owner - will return to court on October 21, after it was first aired at the royal commission into trade union corruption.
