A soldier has died in a Queensland training base after being hit by a tree branch during a routine training exercise.

The Army member died at the Shoalwater Bay Training Area, near Rockhampton, on Thursday morning.

The soldier was riding in an armoured vehicle when he was hit.

He received medical help but was later pronounced dead.

The soldier's family has been notified and are being supported by the Army.

"The Army and broader ADF community extends its deepest sympathies to the soldier’s family and friends," the Australian Defence Force said in a statement.
