University of Tasmania on alert after threat

The University of Tasmania is on security alert after it received a threat similar to that received by the University of NSW on Monday.

The University of Tasmania is on alert after receiving a security threat.

The threat's described as being general in nature and comes a day after a similar threat was made against students and staff at the University of NSW.

The University of Tasmania became aware of the threat to the safety of its students and staff late last night.

There will be an increased security and police presence at all of its campuses today, but all will remain open.

The uni says those students or staff who would prefer not to attend today won't be penalised.
