A Serbian festival is bringing all the krofne to Sydney

Don’t have time (or money) to fly to Serbia? This free summer festival is the next best thing - get your fill of fried doughnuts.

The largest Serbian festival in the southern hemisphere is coming to Sydney this February.

Whether you’re a newbie to Serbian food, don’t believe in portion control or simply want to fill-up your February calendar, this Balkan-inspired tasting spree has something to offer.

For one weekend only, the largest Serbian festival in the southern hemisphere is taking over Sydney’s Tumbalong Park in Darling Harbour. Brought to you by the Serbian Orthodox Church and the Serbian Orthodox Youth Association, expect to taste, see and take part in some of the nation’s cultural delights.
Serbia is well-known for its grilled meats, homemade specialties and strong spirits so expect to feast on cevapi (barbecued minced pork and veal skinless sausages), pljeskavica (meat patty served with fresh kajmak cream and thick pita bread), burek and pita (pastries filled with cheese, meat, spinach, potato, mushroom, apple or walnut to name a few) and palacinke (crepes, both sweet and savoury). Wash it down with a selection of imported Serbian pivo (beer) and vino (wine) and soak up the surroundings as live music and traditional folklore dancing take over the main stage.
Bring your friends, family and appetites and definitely leave room for desserts – yes, we said desserts - because you’ll want to get your hot hands on krofne: Serbian doughnuts filled with custard, chocolate, cream, jelly or simply, no filling at all – and you won’t be stopping at one.
