Dunkin’ Donuts Egypt has found itself caught in the crossfires of a racism scandal.

The Arabic text in the picture reads: “If darkness is half beauty, then whiteness is full beauty.”

Dunkin’ Donuts has faced backlash for referring to darkness as “half beauty”, with customers accusing the company of racist advertising.

The caption underneath the Instagram post actually addresses the divisive nature of the image, even attempting to combat it.  However, many found the caption just furthered the problem.

“Because we are against racism, we will eat both of them, not one only. Which one will you choose?” reads the caption.

People were quick to call out the doughnut company for their insensitivity.
Dunkin’ Donuts has since taken down the image, and apologised.

The company told BuzzFeed News, “As soon as we became aware of the social media post by our Egyptian franchisee, we asked for it to be removed. Our franchisee immediately complied. We apologise for the offence this posting caused.”
