Hold on to your mugs! The Big Milo Tin is coming

Move over, Big Prawn and Big Banana - the next "Big" attraction is on its way.

We suggested a Big Lamington.

They said no.

We talked about a Big Fairy Bread.

They shook their heads.

We even mooted a Big Mintie.

It didn’t take off.

Australia’s next “Big” tourist attraction will be… a Big Milo Tin. And fittingly, it’ll take pride of place in Smithtown, on the north coast of New South Wales, where Milo has been manufactured for its entire 83-year life.

What began as a fun social media call-to-action by Nestle, which owns Milo, has become an 80,000-fan-strong flood of support for the building of a Big Milo Tin. We reported on the suggested Big Milo Tin back in November, when fans of Milo were asked on social media if they’d like to see the powdered malt made into one of Australia’s iconic “Big” things. At that stage, 18,000 fans had shown their support. Less than a month later, that number has grown to 80,000, and Nestle has confirmed that a Big Milo Tin is on its way.

The Big Milo Tin will open in 2019, which just so happens to be Milo’s 85th birthday. Milo fans can continue to have their say on the building of the Tin on Facebook - so may we suggest campaigning Nestle for the return of the original Milo bars? That sounds pretty big to us.
