Unicorn grilled cheese toasties and rainbow bagels are breaking the internet

We love these rainbow foods that are almost – but not quite! – too pretty to eat.

Rainbow bagels recently broke the internet after they made their debut at The Bagel Store in New York. Now other foods are taking over our social media feeds with all the colours of the rainbow. We've rounded up five of the prettiest foods, from a rainbow cheese toastie to fairy floss and sushi, to delight your eyes and your tastebuds.

1. Unicorn grilled cheese

This colourful creation from Hong Kong company KALA Cheese Toast will cost you about $42 HKD ($7 AUD). Each colour gives you a different flavoured cheese: blue for lavender, green for basil and red for tomato, while yellow is a combination of four cheeses (mozzarella, cheddar, Emmental and Gruyère). The toast is crispy and the cheese gooey. Obviously it makes for a great photo too.

2. Rainbow bagels

The Bagel Store in Brooklyn, New York, became famous after its rainbow bagel went viral on the internet. The genius creation had Instagram flooded with photos. Bagel artist Scot Rossillo uses bright-coloured dough and puts different coloured layers together before sculpting his creation into bagel form. Watch the Insider Food video that shows him at work.

3. Sushi burger

For a raw take on rainbow creations, Beautifully Raw founder Sam Murphy created a colourful sushi burger made of vegetable rainbow rice, avocado and tofu. Murphy says in an Instagram post that she was inspired by all the rainbow sushi, wraps, smoothies, cakes and cupcakes she'd seen around lately. She writes that if you want to create your own rainbow rice, you just colour it with tiny amounts of turmeric, beetroot and matcha. The taste barely changes, so she says 'funfetti rice' is great for kids too.

4. Rainbow Fluffë cake

A fluffy cake that is a lot of fun. This rainbow fairy floss cake is a pretty creation from Sydney-based business Fluffë, which makes grown-up fairy floss, including ethereal cakes. Founder Nathan Hunter says the rainbow cake, which is entirely made of fairy floss, is "100 per cent magical". The cakes can be customised with different colour combinations and flavours. Nathan's favourite? A cookies and cream cake, with layers of Oreo crumble and sweet-milk floss.

5. Rainbow capsicum salad

Eating the rainbow is good for us and tasty too. We have a very colourful recipe for a rainbow capsicum salad with quinoa and red kidney beans right here on SBS Food.  From Just One More Spoon's Keren Natalia, this crunchy, colourful salad is high in protein and can be enjoyed on its own or filled in a wrap or pita pocket. Winning all round.
