Find out which special utensils you’ll need on hand during cooking.

Like most Mediterranean kitchens, the Maltese kitchen typically comes equipped with a huge range of pots, pans, trays and casserole dishes of various sizes for cooking dishes that require multiple elements on the stove or in the oven at the same time.

Large casserole dishes

Thanks to the popularity of baked pasta dishes such as timpana (baked macaroni topped with pastry), which can feed an entire family, large baking dishes are an essential of the Maltese home kitchen.

Heavy pots for slow cooking

Large quantities of slow-cooked stews are also popular, so large pots - preferably with a heavy base - which can hold a lot of meat, vegetables and stock are helpful.
