Move aside, golden lattes. Step off, rainbow coffee. There’s a new - ridiculous - coffee trend in town: glitter coffee.
Australian company Coffee by Di Bella is now selling “gold and diamond cappuccinos” - essentially, your basic cap, but with a dusting of edible glitter on top. The diamond glitter is made from by mixing crystallised sugar with edible food colouring, and then heating the two to create a signature shine.
The coffee has taken off everywhere from Germany to India to the UK, but it begs the question: what could possibly be next in this crazy world of coffee one-up-manship? Fairy bread coffee? Smashed avocado coffee? (Okay, there’s already avolattes.) Inception coffee (coffee served in an edible cup made with coffee beans and chocolate)? Ice coffee (literally a block of frozen coffee, served with a knife for hacking into the thing)?
Actually, we predict (and honestly, long for) a return to the days of black coffee, served in a regular white cup, with an optional sachet of (white) sugar alongside it. Because at least in those days, we didn’t get glitter in our teeth before 9 am.
