On Monday, Australia reported at least 11 COVID-19 deaths, including five each in Victoria and New South Wales (NSW) and one in Queensland.
Australian states and territories reported fewer cases over the weekend. However, hospitalisations are on the rise in some jurisdictions.
Victoria reported 555 people in hospitals, its highest since 4 April.
The Australian Capital Territory said 91 people with COVID-19 are in hospitals. On Sunday, the ACT recorded its highest number of hospitalisations (92) since the pandemic began.
Australia was the third-highest contributor to global new infections last week. It reported 365,168 COVID-19 cases over the past seven days.
The US and China were at the top of the ladder with 700,131 and 502,065 cases respectively. Australia was the fourth-highest contributor the previous week.
The World Health Organization has appealed to close the vaccine equity gap between high and low-income countries. It said only 16 per cent of people in low-income countries have had received a single vaccine dose – compared to 80 per cent in high-income countries.
WHO chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said the pandemic will not disappear magically.
"It's not over anywhere until it's over everywhere," he said.
He said reported cases are increasing in almost 70 countries in all regions despite plummeting testing rates.
