COVID-19 update: After nearly 600 days, Australian international borders are open

This is your update on the Coronavirus in Australia for 1 November 2021.

Travel

  • Vaccinated Australian citizens and permanent residents living in NSW, Victoria and Canberra are able to fly internationally from today, without an exemption or having to quarantine upon return to the country.

  • Parents of Australian citizens and permanent residents can also travel to Australia from today, with applications made through the Travel Exemption Portal.

  • Fully vaccinated residents can travel for holidays and recreation between Greater Sydney and regional NSW from today.

  • NSW entry declarations are no longer required for a border region resident. 

  • From today, people who live in Victoria will not be able to travel to NSW for a holiday or recreation if they are over 16 years of age and not fully vaccinated.

  • Fully vaccinated Canberrans can now travel throughout NSW and Victoria.

Vaccination Roll Out

  • NSW adults who got their second COVID-19 vaccine more than six months ago can now get a third shot from pharmacies, GP clinics and mass vaccination hubs.

COVID-19 Statistics

  • Victoria has recorded 1,471 new locally acquired cases and four deaths.
  • NSW has recorded 135 new community cases and four deaths.

If you want to travel overseas, you may be able to apply online for an exemption. Click here for more information about the conditions to leave Australia. There are temporary measures for international flights that are regularly reviewed by the government and updated on the Smart Traveller website.
