On Thursday, Australia reported at least 59 COVID-19 deaths, including 22 in Victoria, 21 in New South Wales (NSW) and nine in Queensland. NSW includes 15 historical deaths, which mostly date back to mid-May. Also, Western Australia reported five historical deaths.

The Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation (ATAGI) now recommends a booster of the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine for those aged 12-15 who have received their second vaccination three months ago and are either severely immunocompromised, have a disability or have complex health conditions at high risk of severe COVID-19. Moderna and Novavax are not registered as a booster dose for this age group.
ATAGI continues to recommend all aged 12-15 have two doses of a COVID-19 vaccine, eight weeks apart. They also continue to recommend three months between a confirmed COVID-19 infection and a dose of COVID-19 vaccine.
ATAGI also recommends all Australians get a flu shot. All COVID-19 vaccines can be given on the same day with a flu vaccine.
COVID-19 vaccinations will be available at six primary schools across South Australia on Saturday from 10 am to 4:30 pm.
The World Health Organisation (WHO) chief Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said over 1,000 monkeypox cases have been reported from 29 countries where the disease is not endemic, with no deaths reported so far in these countries. WHO urges affected countries to identify all cases and contacts to control the outbreak and prevent further spread.
