COVID-19 update: Western Australia records highest new daily cases, crosses 10,000 mark twice in week

Western Australia reported a new daily high of 10,394 COVID-19 cases on Monday. This is a second time in the past five days when the number of new cases in the state surged past 10,000.

New South Wales the only state to report deaths on Monday.

WA has opened 70 new sites in regional areas for close contacts to collect free rapid antigen test (RAT) kits.

However, only asymptomatic close contacts are allowed to visit and collect RAT kits.

The WA government has committed to provide an extra $1.6 billion in COVID-19 response and recovery funds in its annual state budget this week.

The additional funding will cover a suite of measures, including $635 million for the supply of free RAT kits.

Tasmanian Premier Jeremy Rockliff has tested positive for COVID-19 and will be isolating for seven days.

South Australia has launched a $2 million advertising campaign to boost COVID-19 vaccination rates in the state. The campaign will focus on booster doses as only 73 per cent of the state population aged 18 and over are triple vaccinated.
