At least five Greek-Australians are included in this year’s Australia Day Honours list.

They five Greek-Australians receiving the award are:

-       Michael Panormitis Patakis (AM) from Victoria, for significant service to STEM education in Victoria

-       Theodora Ahilas (OAM) from NSW, for service to people affected by asbestos-related diseases and the law

-       Eleni Andrana Glouftsis from Victoria, for service to Australian rules football, particularly as an umpire

-       Soteria Liangis (OAM) from ACT, for significant service to the community through philanthropic support initiatives, and

-       John Constantine Varnavides from Western Australia, (AFSM), for his services as volunteer firefighter

We also find the name of the late Ismini (Pitsa) Parrett, most likely of Greek heritage, married to a non Greek. She was from the ACT. She received the OAM medal for service to the community health through exercise therapy and aquatic rehabilitation.
