Prime Minister Anthony Albanese has attacked the Coles and Woolworths supermarket chains, pointing to plans for a series of measures to reduce food prices. Mr Albanese said it was unacceptable that these chains were making record profits at a time when people were finding it so difficult to make ends meet.

Two of the country's largest supermarket chains have recorded record profits

Coles and Woolworths recorded record profits of $1.1 billion and $1.6 billion respectively last year, at the same time as many families were struggling with the cost of living.

In remarks earlier today, Prime Minister Anthony Albanese highlighted the government's plans to pressure the country's two giants to cut prices on groceries.
