A lecture about the Byzantium and the emergence of Muslim-Turkish Anatolia will be presented by Dean Kalymniou on Thursday 19 July 2018 at Melbourne's Greek Centre. Dean Kalymniou talks to SBS Greek.

According to Kalymniou, contrary to popular Greek conception, the Turkic penetration into Asia Minor predated the fall of Constantinople and was a slow and lengthy process. This lecture examines the socio-political and ethnocultural realities that occasioned a complete inversion in the demographic nature of the region, exploring how this impacted upon the evolution of both the Byzantine and Turkic communities in Asia Minor.

His talk will also take a look at the massive population movements that altered the demographics of Asia Minor irrevocably. the event is part of the Greek History and Culture Seminars offered by the Greek Community of Melbourne.
