One person has died and at least five homes have been destroyed in fires raging in south Queensland. Areas in New South Wales are also on alert, where extreme weather conditions are currently prevailing.

Human remains have been found after a fire broke out in recent days in parts of southern Queensland.

State police confirmed one body was found last night while the battle continues on two fronts about 300km west of Brisbane.

"This is an emerging situation and investigations are continuing. Police will prepare a report for the coroner. No further information is available at this time," Queensland police said in a statement.
