Hundreds of calls for help were made by citizens in the Greater Sydney area due to heavy rain and thunderstorms. At the same time the Bureau of Meteorology is warning of a series of extreme weather events.

Heavy rainfall and widespread thunderstorms in New South Wales have resulted in up to hundreds of calls for assistance in the city of Sydney and some regional areas as river levels rise to flood levels.

The state's emergency service responded to 460 incidents, most in the metropolitan area.

An additional 75 calls occurred in the northeastern part of the state, where flood warnings were in effect following heavy rainfall.
