Story of Australia’s first Hellenes turned into book by Greece-based author

Australia became early on a land of exile for the first Greeks who arrived Down Under. Inspired by the true story, author Konstantina Moshou introduces these pioneers to Greece’s contemporary audience.


The Greece-based writer also explains what makes her believe they were falsely labelled pirates.

The seven Greek sailors were reportedly amongst 201 convicts brought to New South Wales from Malta on a British ship that left Southern England’s shore on 23 May 1829.
