Australian Taxation Office has issued a scam alert.
In a facebook post on Tuesday, 22nd November, ATO warned Australians about an email scam doing the rounds in their name.
These fake emails include a message like ‘Confirmation is required’ or ‘Action is required’ to encourage you to click a link or open an attachment.
Once you’ve clicked, malicious software downloads to your computer blocking you from accessing your files until you pay a ransom.
ATO says that if you’ve received this email, do not click on the link or attachment, just forward it to ReportEmailFraud@ato.gov.au.
Warn your family and friends in Australia.
This is not first scam alert issued by ATO. Many such fraudulent emails are circulated in ATO’s name. Learn about more scams at http://www.ato.gov.au/scams.
