Legendary Ameen Sayani: India's iconic radio host who enthralled countless listeners

Ameen Sayani, renowned for his role as the host of India's pioneering countdown program, Binaca Geetmala, which premiered in 1952 on Radio Ceylon, passed away on 20 February this year. As the radio community grieves his loss, SBS Hindi revisits a notable interview conducted with him back in 2013.


Mr Sayani discussed the lyricists and musicians from the golden era of Indian film music who not only elevated its quality with their expertise but also ensured its enduring legacy.

He said, “The melodies, lyrics, the emotional depth, and the musical brilliance of the composers and playback singers continue to be cherished by music enthusiasts of the sub-continent worldwide.”
