Speaking with SBS Hindi, Vivek Kulkarni from the Art of Living, Adelaide Australia explained the technique of focusing attention, or how to train the mind and achieve a state of mental clarity.
Kulkarni said this designated day is a great opportunity to start practising meditation if one has not yet.

In an official statement, the UN said "To raise awareness about meditation and its benefits, the General Assembly proclaimed 21 December as World Meditation Day, recalling the right of everyone to the enjoyment of the highest attainable standard of physical and mental health."
"Additionally, the General Assembly acknowledged the link between yoga and meditation as complementary approaches to health and well-being," it noted.
“The United Nations' designation of World Meditation Day highlights the increasing awareness of meditation's benefits for personal and community health”, Kulkarni added.
Meditation practices have roots in ancient Egypt and China, as well as in religions such as Judaism, Hinduism, Jainism, Sikhism, and Buddhism.
United Nations General Assembly draft resolution supported by countries like India, Nepal, Liechtenstein, Sri Lanka, Mexico, and Andorra, was adopted unanimously by the 193-member UN General Assembly on December 6, 2024.
