Flood hits Aceh

Banjir besar melanda Aceh Utara Source: AFP

Aceh experienced heavy flooding in three districts. Tens of thousands of residents were displaced, houses were damaged and there were also casualties. Last year, in the same period, only one district was flooded. Because this year there are three districts, it is certain that the flood this time will be much bigger.

BNPB reported that as of December 6, 2020, at 16.20 WIB, the number of affected families reached 13,675 families or 48,184 people. The local government has made efforts to handle emergencies such as evacuation, rapid assessment and distribution of logistics to the displaced residents. A total of 13,675 housing units were affected and the coastal water level was still at 50 to 100 cm.

Listen to the explanation from Fajar Ardianto, a volunteer member of Lazis Muhammadiyah Bireun, Aceh, who immediately went to the field to help refugees.
