The indigenous Forest belonging to the Laman Kinipan indigenous people in Central Kalimantan, has been destroyed by a company granted management rights by the government

The indigenous Dayak community in Laman Kinipan in Central Kalimantan, have lost their custodian forest after a company with management rights from the government cleared the forests.

The current law in Indonesia has caused indigenous peoples to lose their forests, because legally, the land that they have managed and used for hundreds of years is considered to be owned by the government.

Even though they have lived there for hundreds of years, as indigenous peoples they need government recognition, in order to have rights to customary land.
The Laman Kinipan Indigenous Peoples are fighting against this condition, and are struggling to gain recognition for their customary lands.
The legal defender of the Laman Kinipan indigenous community, Aryo Nugroho Waluyo, will talk about this effort.
