The government plans to organize the concept of tourism on Komodo Island and its surroundings, so that animal conservation efforts run on one side, and the community continues to receive benefits from the tourism side.

There is awareness that tourism has a negative impact on the conservation of Komodo itself.

Gabriela Uran, Director of the Komodo Indonesia Lestari Foundation, asked that there be empowerment for the community, especially tourism business actors, so that the concept change does not get rid of them.

Komodo still has to be preserved, but people who have been enjoying the fruits of the tourism sector, said Mrs. Gabriela, should not be excluded.

Meaningful empowerment, a new concept implemented by the Indonesian government, is carried out by providing the widest possible space for local communities to develop.
