Yayasan Kasih Anak Kanker Indonesia (YKAKI) provides a shelter for children with cancer

Children in eastern Indonesia who suffer from tumors or cancer, must be brought to Makassar, South Sulawesi for treatment. This is because hospitals in Papua, Maluku, NTT and surrounding areas have not been able to provide maximum service for this type of disease.

Of course, because of the long treatment process, they needed a place to stay in Makassar. Fortunately, there is the Indonesian Cancer Child Care Foundation (YKAKI) which provides a shelter. In this house, patients and their companions can stay as long as needed for free, and even fulfill all their needs. Some stay for a few weeks, a few months, but also some for up to two or even four years.

Mrs. Nurul Hijriyah is the Head of YKAKI Makassar branch which operates this shelter. We will hear about the ups and downs of managing a halfway house, especially now during the pandemic, where there is a decrease in donations and there are more health-related regulations to protect the entire community from COVID-19 transmission.
