The Korean Cultural Centre (KCC) Australia presents a new exhibition MINHWA Today as an associated event of the Sydney Lunar Festival from the 8th of February until the 1st of April 2021 at its gallery in Sydney.

Co-presented by the Traditional Korean Minhwa Center in South Korea, MINHWA Today features 25 pieces of modern minhwa, referring to the folk painting style of Korea which thrived during the Joseon period (1392-1910), exploring the unique aesthetics and sentiments of the Korean art genre reinterpreted by the minhwa artists of today.

And, this New Year’s food and drink experience event will be live-streamed on the Lunar New Year Day introducing how to make tteokguk, one of the most significant Seollal foods in Korea and how to brew the traditional Korean alcoholic beverage
Jungsoon Kwon, minhwa artist and director of the Traditional Korean Minhwa Center, said, "I am pleased to introduce minhwa to art lovers in Australia through MINHWA Today which will be a rare opportunity to experience a unique sentiment and beauty of the Korean folk paintings. I hope that the wishes and meaning behind each individual painting of minhwa will be conveyed to audiences.”

Sojeong Park, director of the KCC, said, “As the second exhibition of minhwa at the KCC following the one held in 2013, MINHWA Today will be a special exhibition to witness various kinds and techniques of Korea’s minhwa paintings. And just as our ancestors used these folk paintings to ward off bad energy and wish good luck in the New Year, I wish that everyone who comes to the exhibition will be blessed with good spirit and health in the year ahead.”
