As ‘Footballer’ has been moved from the Short-Term Skilled Occupation List to the Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List more players will be able to apply for permanent residency in Australia.

Soccer TONG is a sports segment that proves how everything leads to soccer. In this episode, SBS Korean’s soccer reporter Jun Lee explains how the recent change in migration can affect foreign soccer players in Australia.

‘Footballer’ has been moved from the Short-Term Skilled Occupation List (STSOL) to the Medium and Long-Term Strategic Skills List (MLTSSL) on Monday, 11th March 2019.

With Temporary Skill Shortage (TSS)  Visa in March last year, foreign players could only be granted with two-year visa and possibility for renewal for a further two years. But with the introduction of MLTSSL, international players can be granted with four years visa with the option of applying for permanent residency after three years.

Soccer players who are nearing the end to their career and dreaming of settling down in Australia could see this as a lucrative change and can further assist with bringing more foreign players to Australia.

This change can attract Korean players playing in Korea as Australia is an English speaking nation and renown for education.
