Silent Night is a popular Christmas Carol composed in 1818 by Franz Xaber Gruber to the lyrics by Joseph Mohr in the small town of Oberndorf just south of Salzburg. It is now translated into at least 300 languages, and is designated by UNESCO as a treasured item of Intangible Cultural Heritage. Victor Vella, Maltese-Australian author and broadcaster, explains the story behind this Christmas carol.
