Air India staffer arrested for smuggling gold worth Rs 44 lakh

An engineer with Air India has been arrested for smuggling gold worth Rs 44 lakh from Chhatrapati Shivagi International Airport.

The air intelligence unit of Air India has arrested one of its senior superintendent service engineer for trying to smuggle gold bars from Mumbai’s Chhatrapati Shivagi International Airport.

India Today has reported that the engineer, Janardan Gunaji Kondvikar was arrested on the intervening night of November 14-15 when he was on his way to hand the gold to his accomplice.  He was exiting the Aerobridge after attending to AL 331 when officials intercepted him.

The gold recovered weighted 1,649 grams with a value of Rs 44 lakh.

During the interrogation, Kondvilkar disclosed that one Jagdish Rawal was waiting outside the Mumbai Airport to receive the gold. Rawal was later intercepted from the airport premises.
