300 runs in a T20 match! Seems a far cry?
The feat has actually been accomplished. And it’s not a team total but an individual score.
Mohit Ahlawat, a wicket keeper-batsman from Panipat in Haryana (India) posted the mammoth individual score on Tuesday during a local cricket tournament in India’s capital, Delhi.
For 21-year-old Mohit who was dropped from the Delhi Ranji squad due to his poor showing, has come at a good time right before the Indian Premier League (India’s domestic Cricket league) auctions.
He hopes his innings will be noticed.
“I have put my name in IPL auction but I am not sure if this knock will help make people notice me. I am eager to prove my worth,” ABP Live quoted him as saying.
Mohit blasted 300 runs in just 72 balls, with 39 sixes and 14 fours, taking his team- Maavi XI to a gargantuan 416 in 20 overs.
His powerful hitting reduced the bowling attack to a hapless opposition that seemed totally out of options at Lalita Park, a “decent-sized ground where many T-20 tournaments are held throughout the year.
“The attack was good but after seeing off the new ball, I decided to just bat aggressively and was really timing the ball well. I saw the scoreboard, and I was nearing my 200 with five overs to go, so I decided to go for the kill. I reached 250 with just two overs to go, I told my partner, let me try if I can make 300, and I got 30 off the last over,” he said.
Son of a truck driver, Mohit was first picked for the Delhi side for Ranji Trophy at captain Gautam Gambhir’s insistence. However, Mohit failed to leave a mark and he was dropped from the side. He now hopes that Gautam Gambhir will notice his performance and he will get a comeback chance.
His knock is believed to be a world record. The previous club T-20 highest individual score is 277 from 72 balls scored by Sri Lanka’s Dhanuka Pathirana in Lancashire in 2007.
