Indian-origin runner Palwinder Rai has set-off on his nine-day 360 km long journey from Coffs Harbour to the 2018 Commonwealth Games' venue at Gold Coast to raise funds and awareness for the Cancer Council.

Rai who had arrived in Australia over eight years ago has participated in many half marathons and cross country runs since 2013.

Speaking to SBS Punjabi, the 32-year-old runner revealed the other vital reason behind his effort.
"This is my way of giving back to Australia- a country that has given me most of everything I have today.”- Palwinder Rai
With this run, he also intends to put Woolgoolga- home to the earliest Punjabi migrants in Australia - on the world map.
The town also regarded as an oasis for Sikh culture’s establishment in Australia where a Sikh temple was established in 1968 - the first in Australia

Besides the Sikh community in Woolgoolga, the local Councillors and the Sikh community in Brisbane have also applauded Rai for his initiative.
