According to Ms Jain, "June 30, 2017 is the final deadline for conversion of PIO to OCI card. If people haven't made the conversion, they will have to apply for a visa to travel to India after June 30, because the PIO card won't be accepted".

"The Government of India has given ample time to everyone living overseas to apply for the PIO to OCI conversion, because PIO cards have to be phased out now. Previous deadlines have been extended, but as of now, this is the final deadline."

Ms Jain also mentioned that if people apply for the conversion before June 30, 2017, consular fees will be waived. As of July 1, applicants will have to make a new application for an OCI card, and all relevant charges will apply.
