South Korea has begun a period of national mourning for those killed in a stampede during Halloween festivities. An investigation has been launched into what happened as the death toll continues to rise.

As many as 100-thousand people, many of them young, were dressed in elaborate costumes and taking the opportunity to celebrate the first outdoor no-mask Halloween event since the pandemic began.

Throughout the evening the crowds had built up when tragedy struck.

It was in a narrow alley near the Hamilton Hotel in Itaewon that large crowd started surging forward.
