More than 100 inmates have escaped from a jail in northeastern Brazil.

One of the walls of Frei Damiao de Bonzanno Prison in Recife was destroyed by explosives on Saturday afternoon, according to local media reports.

Scores of prisoners were able to escape, reported the Diario de Pernambuco, the leading newspaper in the region.

According to information provided by officials, two of the escapees died when 40 of them were recaptured by the military police.

The jailbreak comes just three days after another mass escape from the Professor Barreto Campelo Prison in the same area. All 53 inmates involved have since been recaptured.
