One Nation Senator Pauline Hanson has issued a defiant response to Prime Minister Scott Morrison's call for a special day to honour and recognise Indigenous Australians.
Senator Hanson labelled the prime minister's suggestion to celebrate Indigenous Australians on a day other than January 26 as another "token gesture".
"Offering indigenous Australians another token gesture in the form of a public holiday won't help or change anything. Australia Day must remain on the 26th of January," she posted on Twitter.

"We need to accept our past and learn to celebrate our shared country's bright future together as one nation."
The caption was accompanied by an image of Senator Hanson hand washing Australian flags, apparently in the Australian outback.
Behind her, more Australian flags hang from an iconic Hills Hoist washing line.
The image was previously used as the cover of her biography Please Explain.
The Senator's tweet comes after Mr Morrison called for a new national day to celebrate Indigenous Australians, in an effort to sidestep the growing calls for Australia Day to be moved from January 26.
The prime minister’s suggestion comes after his government took swift action to punish a NSW council for moving its Australia Day festivities – something several Victorian councils did last year.
