Bulldogs' Morris closes on AFL comeback

For the second year in a row, Western Bulldogs veteran Dale Morris is poised to make a speedy return from an anterior cruciate ligament injury.

Western Bulldogs ironman Dale Morris is set to do it again, with the defender closing on an improbable AFL return.

A year after Morris made a speedy comeback from a partial anterior cruciate ligament rupture in his right knee, he has repeated the feat after a similar injury to his left knee.

Morris was hurt at training in mid-March and will return this weekend, probably in the VFL.

"Provided he gets through training this week like we expect, he will make his long-anticipated comeback this weekend, which is extremely exciting for everyone else at the club," Bulldogs medical services manager Chris Bell told the club website.

Morris also hurt his right ACL in the pre-season last year, but was back in the AFL by round 11.

He played 11 senior games last year, but there were fears that this year's ACL injury could end his career.

Morris has a legendary ability to cope with injury - he famously played with a broken bone in his back during the Bulldogs' 2016 finals series and was part of their drought-breaking premiership team.

The key defender has played 252 senior games and is one of the AFL's most respected players.
