WHERE THE LEADERS CAMPAIGNED:

* Prime Minister Scott Morrison: Adelaide (Boothby, Lib 2.7 per cent), Burnie (Braddon, ALP 1.7 per cent), Launceston (Bass, Labor, 5.4 per cent)

* Labor leader Bill Shorten: Burnie (Braddon, ALP 1.7 per cent), Clovelly Park (Boothby, Lib 2.7 per cent).

WHAT THE COALITION WANTED TO TALK ABOUT:

Continued spruiking of its policy to guarantee three-quarters of the deposit for first home buyers, and the unknown quantity people will get if they vote for independents.

WHAT LABOR WANTED TO TALK ABOUT:

Its plans to reduce waiting lists for hospitals and elective surgeries, plans to help pensioners pay for dental treatment, and the Liberals' lack of policies.

* State-by-state analysis of Newspoll shows swing to Labor in Queensland, Victoria and WA compared with the 2016 election result.

* Voter Choice Project shows Labor franking credits policy is shifting voters to Liberals.
