Defence department has monkey squad

A troop of monkeys is based at the Army's malaria research centre in Queensland, the Defence department says.

The Defence department has a troop of monkeys.

During a discussion about live animal ownership in a Senate estimates hearing in Canberra, it emerged the monkeys are kept at an Army research centre in Queensland.

The centre aims to research ways to protect personnel against malaria and other vector-borne diseases.
