Dockers not fazed by Lachie Neale's return

Fremantle coach Ross Lyon says he is unlikely to send a tagger to star Brisbane midfielder Lachie Neale in Sunday's AFL clash in Perth.

Prized Brisbane recruit Lachie Neale will be the centre of attention when he returns to his former stomping ground for Sunday's AFL clash with Fremantle at Optus Stadium.

The Dockers were left stunned at the end of last season when Neale requested a trade to Brisbane despite still having a year to run on his contract.

Fremantle reluctantly agreed and the trade allowed them to secure star Melbourne forward Jesse Hogan.

Hogan is yet to fully fire for Fremantle but the same can't be said for Neale, who is in career-best form at Brisbane.

Neale is averaging a career-high 33.9 possessions and eight clearances at his new club, helping transform the Lions (6-3) into a legitimate finals contender.

Fremantle coach Ross Lyon predicts the home crowd will give Neale a rough reception.

But Lyon wasn't worried that Neale might possess some useful inside knowledge about how Fremantle's midfield works.

"It's about aggression and winning the ball. There's not too much science to it," Lyon said.

"Everyone wants to complicate it. It's not even really about the ruck tap. It doesn't interest me that much - as long as it falls in a certain area.

"It's about intent, and ball hunting, and we've got great ball hunters and we've got great intent. So I'm pretty sure that will take care of it."

Lyon hinted he was unlikely to send a tagger to Neale.

Instead, the likes of Nat Fyfe, David Mundy and Michael Walters will take Brisbane's midfield unit head-on.

"We haven't tagged all year," Lyon said.

"We know what Lachie's good at, we know what his weaknesses are. We'll be looking to minimise his strengths and try to exploit his weaknesses, because everyone's got them."

Fremantle's own finals hopes are on thin ice after three successive losses.

Hogan's importance has magnified following the season-ending foot injury suffered by Matt Taberner.

The Dockers overlooked former GWS forward Cam McCarthy for a recall, instead handing a debut to speedy wingman Brett Bewley.

Brisbane welcome back veteran Luke Hodge and Lewis Taylor.

Jarrod Berry (knee) and Rhys Mathieson (suspended) go out of the side.
