Domestic violence action gets boost

Emergency housing for women escaping violence and more support services will be funded under a $328 million strategy outlined in the federal budget.

The action plan to reduce violence against women and children includes $64 million over two years to ensure the hotline 1800RESPECT is able to meet forecast increases in demand and update its online services.

As well, there is $75.4 million to provide emergency accommodation and $110.9 million for domestic and family violence support services.

Specific needs of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people affected by violence will be addressed with $35 million set aside for support and practical intervention programs.
