Prince Harry's visit to Sydney was short but sweet, leaving fans with memories of a lifetime and even more in awe of the young royal.

About 100 fans flocked to Sydney's Aquatic Centre in the city's Olympic precinct to catch a glimpse of the royal before he flies back to London on Thursday afternoon.

After jumping off a River ferry, the 32-year-old made a casual entrance on foot along Olympic Boulevard - before touring some of the venues that will stage next year's Invictus Games.

There were no kisses for the mostly female crowd, but a few lucky fans did get to touch royalty as Prince Harry stopped and shook hands with the screaming fans under much better conditions following Wednesday's walkabout during torrential rain at Circular Quay where he also charmed his fans.

His arrival brought people from all walks of life together on Thursday, as everyone huddled to get a glimpse of the prince, including Sonia Mowlam and Louise Whitesmith who had only just met, but excitedly embraced after shaking Prince Harry's hand.

"We shook his hand and we loved it," Ms Whitesmith told AAP.

The new friends bonded over their shared experience and were glowing with happiness.

"I grew up watching Princess Diana on every page of every magazine and I follow the royals and I love them so much," Ms Mowlam told AAP.

Fans had nothing but praise for the prince, with many commenting on his "relatable nature" including Robbie Burlas who told AAP "he reminds me of his mum, Diana".

Aussie fans have also given his girlfriend Meghan Markle the tick of approval.

"She's a 10 out of 10 - I want to tell him that," Elise Warnett told AAP.

Some fans have already accepted her as a part of the royal family calling her a "princess".

"I feel like she should be a princess," Pauline Allouche told AAP.

Many female fans are still ready to throw their hat in the ring too if things don't work out with the actress.

"If 'forever' doesn't work out, I'm single Harry," Bridget Johnston said.

Prince Harry's two-day visit launched the 500-day countdown to the 2018 Invictus Games, and included visits to the venues where defence veterans will compete next October.
