The International Committee of the Red Cross says it's seeking to negotiate safe access to the Iraqi city of Fallujah to deliver humanitarian assistance.

Iraqi and allied forces are fighting to retake control of the city which has been held by the so-called Islamic State since early 2014.

Iraqi and United States officials estimate around 100,000 civilians are trapped in the city, and are in need of aid.

Ralph El Hage is a spokesman for the ICRC in Baghdad.

He told Uma Rishi, the agency is concerned for the safety of people in Fallujah.
