Israel's military says an investigation has concluded there's no link between the army's use of tear gas and the death of a baby on the West Bank on Friday.

Palestinian officials had said the baby choked and died when tear gas fired by Israeli soldiers at a violent protest nearby had seeped into the baby's house.

A spokesman for the Palestinian health ministry said Ramadan Thawabteh died after the gas seeped into his house in Bethlehem not far from where clashes broke out between youths and Israeli soldiers.

Hundreds of people attended eight-month-old Ramadan's funeral yesterday.

The baby is the latest victim of weeks of violence sweeping through Israel, the West Bank and Gaza, amid fears of a third Palestinian uprising.
