Ivanka Trump has been grilled about her father's child care and maternity policies during a testy interview with Cosmopolitan magazine.

In an interview with the magazine Ivanka Trump faced questions about the absence of paternity leave or leave for gay fathers in Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump's plan.

She also appeared irritated when asked about comments previously made by Donald Trump that pregnancy was an "inconvenience" to employers.

"Well, you said he made those comments. I don't know that he said those comments," she replied.

After accusing reporter Prachi Gupta of "negativity" and winding up the interview saying "I have to run", the 34-year-old businesswoman and mother of three took to Twitter to chastise the magazine for not keeping "the focus where it belongs".
