With two weeks left to her due date, New Zealand's pregnant prime minister says she's getting nervous about the ticking clock and travelling too far.

Jacinda Ardern has been hoping to keep working and traversing the country until the June 17 due date for her first child, but on Wednesday admitted she wasn't sure she would make it.

"Looking at me, it's any time now," she told More FM.

"My concern is, what if I get caught out? ... I'm trying to now stay a bit closer to the hospital."

And she says there's also one major decision left to be made: the baby's name.

"We've got a list, it's not getting any shorter and it has no favourites. So it's not going well," she said.

Ms Ardern and her partner, television presenter Clarke Gayford, know but haven't revealed the baby's gender.

The prime minister, 37, is expected to take six weeks off after the birth, with Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters to take over her role for the duration.
