Man attacked by shark during surf lesson at NSW south coast beach

A man bitten by a shark on a beach south of Wollongong has been airlifted to a Sydney hospital.

A man has been airlifted to hospital after a shark bit him at a beach south of Wollongong.

The 24-year-old from Sydney was attacked about 1pm on Saturday at Seven Mile Beach at Gerroa while learning how to surf.

He was treated at the scene before being airlifted to St George Hospital for wounds to his hand and calf.

The beach has been closed and police are investigating the incident along with Surf Life Saving and the Department of Primary Industries.
