Man dead in Vic crash was shot, police say

Homicide detectives are investigating after a man who died in a car crash in Melbourne was discovered with gunshot wounds.

The death of a man found with gunshot wounds after his car crashed into a pole is being treated as a "targeted" incident.

The man's body was found in a car that had crashed into a pole at Dawn Aveune, Dandenong, on Sunday night.

Police found the driver, believed to be aged in his 50s, unresponsive and suffering from what appeared to be gunshot wounds when they attended, just before 10pm.

Homicide detectives are treating the incident as targeted and at this early stage, do not believe it's linked to the shooting of three men in Kensington on Friday night.

Anyone in the area on Sunday evening who may have dash cam footage is urged to contact police.
