A timeline of the events since former Melbourne lord mayor Robert Doyle was accused of sexual harassment by a town hall colleague.

A TIMELINE OF SEXUAL HARASSMENT ALLEGATIONS AGAINST FORMER MELBOURNE LORD MAYOR ROBERT DOYLE

* 15 December 2017 - Tessa Sullivan makes allegations of sexual harassment by Mr Doyle, she resigns from council and an independent investigation is ordered

* 17 December 2017 - Mr Doyle stands down from his role while the allegations he denies are investigated

* 17 January 2018 - Another woman comes forward with allegations she was harassed by Mr Doyle at a Melbourne Health event in 2016, sparking a Department of Health and Human Services investigation and prompting Mr Doyle to stand down as chairman of Melbourne Health while denying misconduct

* 4 February 2018 - Mr Doyle quits as mayor after being hospitalised the day before for a stress-related illness

* 8 February 2018 - It's revealed complaints of inappropriate behaviour by Mr Doyle during his time as a teacher at Geelong College were referred to police in 2015, but police say it did not go ahead with an investigation

* 13 March 2018 - The independent report for the City of Melbourne makes four adverse findings against Mr Doyle, concluding he sexually harassed Ms Sullivan and councillor Cathy Oke on separate occasions after drinking red wine

* 12 May 2018 - A by-election will be held to find a new Melbourne lord mayor
